Time for a change

Time for a change

My new haircut. Feels great to not worry about about what my hair looks like after wearing a toque for hours.

The winter good life

The winter good life

Winter Garden Ok, this is the winter good life. I'm sitting in my reading chair by the window watching the snow, crocheting for Christmas (my last project) and drinking mulled cider. Enjoying the beauty, stillness & cosyness of the season.

Dark Days

Dark Days

Lights on neighbor's birchIn spite of my best intentions for cheer and festivity my body knows the darkest day of the year is approaching and is reacting accordingly - with flagging enthusiasm, lack of motivation and tiredness. Nothing feels better than pulling the down duvet over my shoulders at night, ...

The Vinyl Cafe

The Vinyl Cafe

I forgot to mention my favorite time of the day yesterday was at 2pm when The Vinyl Cafe was broadcast on our local public broadcasting station. Yay for CBC! Yay for NPR! Nothing like listening to an hour of Stuart McLean to make me miss Canada in a way I ...

Snow Day

Snow Day

Going out for cricketsThis was our second snow day of the winter season. The first was Monday 2 weeks ago. Monday is a work day for me so although Damien got to stay home I didn't get much of "free" day. Today however I did : ) Our only plan ...

An Unexpected Forest, Book review

An Unexpected Forest, Book review

This book was unexpectedly delightful. It's a quirky novel set in Maine & Connecticut about interesting characters venturing out of the ordinary. The story held my interest because of the character's growth and interesting life paths. Was a nice break from my usual feed of non-fiction. Recommend it.

God's Harvard, book review

God's Harvard, book review

God's HarvardAn "outsider's" insider view of Patrick Henry College. Which, near as I can tell from reading the book, is for homeschooled, evangelical, right winged, politically motivated students. Wow, scary stuff and a very fascinating read. Because of my own evangelical leanings (I hate labels) and the fact that I ...

Wolfe's Neck Woods snowshoeing

Wolfe's Neck Woods snowshoeing

Today's snowshoeing was absolutely gorgeous, chilly certainly but so beautiful I felt like jumping up and down for joy. And I did just that trying to keep warm! We went to Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park in Freeport and followed the Ledge Trail through the snow covered pine forest to ...

Instead of

Instead of

Nativity Celine's photowriting a Christmas letter, stringing lights outside and making my yearly DVD of family photos and video I've been reading & crocheting. To my credit however, I blog every week so if family or friends want to know what's going on they can read it here. And I ...

Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing

Snowshoeing Thorncrag Sunday was our first time snowshoeing with the kids. What fun! We started easy with a tromp through the woods at nearby Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary. Many thanks to Mom & Dad Tougas who helped purchase the kid's snowshoes with the Christmas money they sent. (don't worry there are ...

First week of Christmas and Winter

First week of Christmas and Winter

A snowstorm hit early this week and put us in the winter/Christmas spirit. Damien had Monday off work since the college was closed due to the snow. Although it was a busy "work day" for me (lots of food planning for next couple weeks) the kids played hours outside and ...

Tree Study

Tree Study

The tree is up, Christmas season has officially started! Since Thanksgiving we have been taking a school break. Instead we're spending our usual school time on Christmas & seasonal related stuff - making gifts, extra errands, projects, decorating, playing in the snow etc... So, the kids aren't practicing their handwriting ...

Just gotta say...

Just gotta say...

what a wonderful husband I have. In addition to his great skills as a tailor he lovingly served me today, even in my grouchiness. All morning I was not looking forward to doing errands this afternoon and cleaning the car off. During his lunch break he surprised me by coming ...

Happy Birthday... to me

Happy Birthday... to me

New birthday vestLast week we celebrated Brienne's birthday and today was my turn. It was a fantastic, celebratory weekend actually. Friday night our whole family volunteered at a Lots to Gardens fundraiser at our local library. The night included a locally grown supper (soups, cheese, breads, dessert) with local musicians ...
