Summer 2011 was a big year for us. We launched Life 3.0 and we used some of our savings to buy plane tickets and rent a car for a trip out west. We were living with my parents for the summer and my mom took care of the kids.
This is the only "fly somewhere trip" we took together while raising kids.
Destination: the American west. Montana, Wyoming and Utah.
This trip coincided with our 15th wedding anniversary and it was partly a working trip (though a heck of a lot of fun working trip) visiting Outdoor Retailer in Utah to help support and build our work as content creators in the outdoor industry.
We were hosted by online friends and found free accommodations through other friends along the way. We experienced amazing hospitality.
It was a gift of a trip. Our first significant time alone since becoming parents 12 years earlier.
It was a season of hope, optimism, and big dreams. I fell in love with Montana and vowed to return someday, which we did in 2016.

We experienced such wonderful community on this trip. We are going home in a couple days with hearts full of love and support and our heads full of ideas and action plans. Best combination possible.

Hospitality to travelers. It's not about having a guest room, a perfect house, or even cooking a meal. It's about sharing what you've been given.

Fifteen years ago this month Damien and I were married. Part of this trip out west is an anniversary vacation for us, the longest time we've been alone since having children. We're loving it.
