My children would rather make toys then buy them. Well, two of them for sure. Brienne who is eight years old and has always embraced a "more is better" philosophy about life is still drawn to store bought toys but with a tempered "I'd like to try making that" enthusiasm.

I could see from the very beginning that my children wanted to make and do and I determined to give them the freedom to do that. And then a realization dawned on me, the same freedom I gave them I wanted to give myself.

Interest-led learning when our children were little was very family and home based. Looking back, I focused predominantly on three main "subjects" all the way up till age 7 (this isn't a magic age, just happened to be when we started a teensy bit more formal stuff with our kids).
