Weekend Holiday Links ~ Take Two

Our weekend breakfast of baked apples
(with frozen raspberries, picked this summer)

The first time around was fun so let's go again.

I've especially enjoyed listened to a few different albums recently and must recommend:

  • Sufjan Stevens Songs for Christmas, music that just hits the nail on the head for me this week. Folky, quirky, lots of hymns, traditional and not-so-traditional.
  • Loreena McKennit A Midwinter Night's Dream - thanks to my sis-in-law who bought this for me "just because".
  • Sarah McLachlan's Wintersong is probably one of my favorite Christmas albums.
  • Glory and Peace but especially Peace by violinist Trevor Dick. A two disc album that features my little bro on the piano. Yep, he's a musician (as in, that's how he feeds his family) and he's really handsome to boot.
  • Handel's Messiah by the London Philharmonic. A rousing good time.

My brain and holiday mood is shifting from deep and thoughtful to (happily) busy and bustling. We spent this week crafting like crazy, planning holiday menus, singing Handel's Messiah, caroling at a Veteran's home, going to the farm, and getting outdoors in spite of no snow.

Preparations have kicked into high gear in our home as we are leaving for our Christmas trip to visit family in less than one week. Busy days make for less moody contemplation, a nice change for me from this past month.

Also want to give a shout out to recent giveaway winners here at FIMBY. I do follow up on all giveaways I just don't always announce it on the front page.

Winners of my Thankful for You soap giveaway were Jill Foley and Debbie. Winner of 100 Easy Lessons, given away with Learning to Read Part 2 was Jacqueline. Thanks for participating everyone.

I see your jars and smile as my kitchen counters are full of jars and tins of homemade goodness. I've been melting, refining, stirring and whipping up a frenzy of healing balms, deodorant, body butters, after shave balms and vapor rubs. Mmmm. It smells so wonderful-full of lavender, shea and peppermint. I've always thought it would be more fun to mix with a friend. I guess it'll have to be a virtual friend for now. :)

Cool. I love Trevor Dick's music too. His mom was my dd's piano and violin instructor for years, that's how we were introduced to his music.
