Things to Read (& Find) @ FIMBY

If you are new to FIMBY or maybe subscribe via e-mail or reader you might not be aware of a few hidden "gems" on the blog.

This morning's breakfast

Links to Other Blogs:

I love reading blogs and love to share my favorite posts with readers. However, I don't do a weekly round up or monthly round up like I used to. Instead I have a block on my sidebar currently called (I sometimes change the name) Inspiring Internet.

Under that heading you'll see the five posts I've most recently linked to. At the bottom of that block if you click on Archived Inspiration it will take you to a page divided into FIMBY's current main categories: Mama Speak, Homeschool, Creative Homestead, Beyond My Back Yard, The View and Life 3.0.

Life 3.0? Well, that's new and you'll just have to wait a bit to find out what I mean by that.

But back to the links. If you visit Archived Inspiration you can click on the category headings to go to a page of my recent favorite links as related to that topic. I keep those lists down to twenty five and they are updated almost every day. (Don't worry that is all automatic I'm not spending time every day updating those).

Tweet, Tweet:

Also of interest to you twitter types I have a twitter account @FIMBY. I personally do all my twitter stuff with TweetDeck.

We recently bought a Smart Phone (to replace Damien's work cell phone and our land line in preparation for our move) and I can actually send tweets right from the phone!  Who knew? I don't do that very often yet as I don't particularly like phones, period. But man, the technology these days makes all this "connectivity" very easy.

My twitter feed is also on all my FIMBY pages. If you look on the day I'm publishing this (March 30th) you'll see our supper menu. Yum. But look quick because I might do a flurry of tweets today and you'll miss it! In which case you could just follow me @FIMBY.

What I'm Reading:

On the right side bar under links to other blogs and my twitter feed are linked titles of books I'm currently reading. Clicking on those book titles will take you to Amazon where you can read more about the book.

Those links are affiliate links and even if you don't buy the book (I rarely, rarely buy books) but purchase something else after visiting from FIMBY our family makes a small commission. Each and every little bit helps in reaching our family goals. So THANKS!

This morning's quiet time

About reading though... If you want to see more of what I've read lately click the goodreads button at the bottom of that block. And if you are a reader also and have a goodreads account (super easy and free to do) please do friend me. I love seeing what other people read and getting inspiration and ideas for books.

I love reading. Sigh. How about you?

Bookstore:

FIMBY now has an Amazon affiliate bookstore. That link is in my top menu bar.

The bookstore is not "fully stocked". You'll notice some categories are empty. As I have time I am stocking the bookstore with our favorite non-fiction reference books.

Same thing I said above about the Amazon links applies here.

Archives:

Looking for something? Don't use the search function it's been broken for months! Pathetic I know. It's probably really messing up my stats or something.

I live with a computer techie, these things are supposedly solveable. But you see we're kinda' like moving in just over a month and my blog maintenance is not high on the priority list.

Feel free to check the archives though at the bottom of the page. I use the monthly archive feature all the time to find my own posts.

I also use this handy trick Damien taught me for finding something on a site. To search a site (blog, website whatever) type the following into a Google search box (spaces don't seem to matter)

site: sitename: search term

Ie: if you remember I once mentioned raspberries on the blog but can't remember where you'd type the following in a Google seach box.

site: fimby.tougas.net: raspberries

The internet. It's amazing.

That's it. I'll be back tomorrow with some actual "content" and I have a giveaway on Friday from Katie at Gadanke. It will be a nice introduction to spring and April.

Maybe even as nice as green smoothie for breakfast (wink).
