A finished project

Girls curtain 1 Girl's Curtain 2 Girl's curtain 3 Curtain tieback Celine's Bed Brienne's bed

I'm finally finished the girl's bedroom curtains and bedcovers. The bedcovers have been done for months and half the curtain has been hanging up for a couple weeks. Today Celine's best friend came over to play and the children all played with each other for hours. I basically only had to feed them which left me lots of time to sew.

I now know why I like gardening better than sewing. Working with dirt is less precise and more forgiving of errors not to mention just plain dirtier. You don't have to worry about exact measurements. When I sew I'm always changing the design as I go (I make my own designs to begin with - can't stand following patterns) to accomodate for the mistakes I've made along the way. It probably would be easier to follow a pattern, measure, etc... These particular curtains I made with leftover sheets and used ribbon to edge them since I didn't leave enough fabric to sew a hem! Opps.

The duvet covers I made using a king sized floral patterned sheet (cut in half, one half for each bed) as the topper and a flannel twin flat sheet as the bottom. I've found that a bottom & top sheet are just too much hassle with small children so I use a duvet cover & duvet as the top sheet and blanket all in one.

Next fall/winter I hope to remove the wallpaper and paint the room a light coral or lilac color with green accents - oh I love the thought of it already!

Renee, I am impressed! I think the curtains look very pretty in white and floral. How do the girls like their girly room? I like the tieback hooks, where did you find those? I have been planning on making a topper for our office window for quite some time but never seem to have the motivation to get going on that project. Hmmmm.....you have given me some inspiration though.

Mel, I found these tiebacks at a local store called World Over Imports. They sell all kinds of eclectic and original housewares. These were actually coathooks that I attached to the wall sideways to make into tiebacks.

The girls like their room. Celine is especially pleased with the flannel backing to her duvet cover. She is very sensitive to fabrics and loves flannel, fleece and soft things. Conversely she can't wear any clothing with tags, is very particular about how her socks are rolled or unrolled on her feet and becomes very attached to specific clothing that are most comfortable for her. Last summer she wore a denim dress almost everyday, except when it was really dirty. This winter her wardrobe of choice is a navy dress and tights (solves the socks problem). Thankfully it's dark so she can wear it for days and not look too dirty. The funny thing is that this dress was a hand me down, was kind of worn looking to begin with (starting to pill) and certainly not the prettiest dress in her closet. But it must be the most comfortable because Celine wears it as often as possible.

Thank you for your kind words but I'm not really that talented. Isn't it funny how we always admire and are inspired by the creativity and gifts of others but think our own talents are rather ordinary. Have to say that's true in my case.
