While the men are away...

the women will play. Well not play so much as putter around.

Our men went hiking today without us women. They hiked the highest mountain in Maine, Mount Katahdin, a good 4 hours from our home and the day involved leaving the house at the ungodly hour of 4:00am. I was more than happy to bow out of this one and let my husband and son go with some guy friends this time.

So the girls and I stayed home and enjoyed this rainy fall day together. I have no photos to share what we did since Damien took the camera (smile). That's ok. Photography would of distracted me from what we did do. We read, I hung up family photos I've been meaning to do for months, I cleaned my desk area and had a long chat with my sister-in-law on the phone.

Tonight the girls and I watched the romantic comedy New In Town, very sweet and funny. I recommend it. I used to talk more about movies on this blog but since adopting my personal rule of only posting my own photos for images I find it hard to work movies into my posts. That and I hardly watch movies these days.

And now it's thundering and lightening outside, very strange for an October night, and I'm so happy I didn't leave the comforts of my own home today.

I posted a couple items of interest over at ADVENTUREinPROGRESS today. Firstly a recipe for Cashew "ginger cookie" nut bars. Yes, they are as good as they sound and taste just as great at home as on the trail. I also wrote about an easy menu for hiking days. If it isn't apparent already hiking is a big part of our lives and we are looking for ways to share what we've learned with other families who are interested in being outdoors together. If you wonder how to plan food for a day out in the woods that post may be helpful to you.

I am now anxiously awaiting the arrival of my men back home. G'nite all.

sounds like a lovely and relaxed day! thanks for linking through to that recipe. i prefer to make foods from scratch, but when we hike or camp, i have been buying zbars and other energy kid bars, because lala seems to crash easily and needs food every couple of hours. they are so handy to offer on the trail, in addition to trail mix. homemade would be so much better! hope your guys had a blast! nicola http://whichname.blogspot.com

I have to smile-- when my Lizzie was born 20 months ago (wow!) one of the first things I thought about as we snuggled together in the bright blue afternoon was that someday, my three boys would venture off together for something, and I'd get to snuggle in and have a "girls' day" with my sweet daughter. You've given me a glimpse into what that may look like;)

It is so nice to have girls (& boys). We don't go our separate ways often but it was so sweet to have time with just my girls.

I stopped by via the blog 'Make It From Scratch', thinking that perhaps your "Keeeping It Simple" was a "theme day" which I could add to my Oct. list, but it doesn't look as though it is. Should you ever decide to make it one, PLEASE let me know, and I shall!

An observation ? - does one of your sons wear his hair in pigtails, or did a daughter accompany "the guys"?
