Weekend gardening

I had no idea gardening would bring me such joy - the whole process. Reading about plants, the planning, working at Hedgehog to earn the plants, building beds, making beds etc...

Truck with manure

This weekend we added onto our existing front flower bed. First we borrowed a truck from friends, then picked up a truck-bed full of composted manure from another friend's horse stables. Then we came home and built our bed using the easy, no dig method .

The whole process gives me great joy. Damien goes along with it lending his muscle and site preparation expertise but I think he obtains most of his joy from having a happy wife. It was a full day's project and I still need to edge the front of the bed with bricks. I can hardly wait to pick up my plants in a couple weeks.

Today we went to church early because I was greeting (substituting for a friend). So, we were home and had lunch by 12:30. So what did we do with the rest of the day? Well for most of it the kids and I watched the recently released Little House on The Prairie Disney miniseries.

We rented it on DVD and watched most of it today (yes that translated to hours of television viewing). All the while Daddy, who does not appreciate Little House on the Prairie to the same degree, busied himself with making a quick shopping trip to Freeport, computer stuff and going for a walk. Yes, he exercised while the rest of us watched TV, how terrible is that.

Altogether, the day was thoroughly enjoyable and because it was cloudy and cool I didn't feel guilty not working in the garden. Not to mention my aching body needed a rest.
