Sweet stuff for Spring

I'm off for the weekend with my family for our first backpacking trip of the season. Now that I've tasted camping for real - in the woods, no cars and no running water (except the stream) I don't know that I want to go back to campground camping. We're re-visiting Gentian Pond to get us back into the groove. Now, that's what I call sweet.

You might enjoy some of this sweet stuff while I'm off peeing in the woods and snuggled in my sleeping bag.

Mama Speak

Homeschool

  • The One Thing Principle at Brave Writer, found via Handmade Homeschool. Could it really be so simple?
  • Speaking of Handmade Homeschool, Sarah gives us all a permission slip to basically re-evaluate and enjoy our homsechool experience (in case you need reminding).
  • Get your kids creating at Clean. I've been very excited to share Rachel's post with you all. I think it's excellent and it's what I would say to anyone asking me a similar question.
  • Nature Journaling (tutorial) at Daffodil Lane. Shawn makes this look so easy and beautiful. (stay tuned for a giveaway of one of these little handmade journals)
  • Frugal Homeschool at Simple, Green, Frugal Co-Op. Homeschooling need not cost much, especially when kiddos are little.
  • Making a One Sheet Book (tutorial) (super easy book making) at Old Recipe for a New World. The kids are busy making these as I type.
  • Creating and Preserving Life Margins by Stefani at Simple Homeschool. This is where homeschooling really shines - in the way we can craft our time to suit our family's needs vs. the demands of external pressures.
  • Peter's Spring Break Interview at Yarns of the Heart. An unschooled graduate attending college answers homeschooling parents most pressing questions. An excellent read for those of us wondering "is this really going to work?".

Enjoy your weekend. Hope you all have a sweet one with your family & friends.

Hi Renee, Thank you (as always) for the link love. I read one of your posts last night that really got my gears turning, on balancing home and homeschool. Your kids role in that is wonderful. Mine (7 and 3) aren't nearly so participatory in our day-to-day... it gave me so much to think about.

    Many blessings, Rachel

Many are new to me, thanks for more blog fodder fun! Missed seeing your comments around my place, but I know time is limited. Have fun camping. We used to do a lot of that type of camping. We are easing back into camping with young kids a little less hardcore! Nicola

Off peeing in the woods...tee-hee! Brings back woodsy memories of Wyoming, nature, the need to go, and a very angry moose. Can't talk about it...too funny (: Let's just say I was educated on the protocol of getting business done and quickly (:

Can't wait to peruse the sites you listed...have fun camping (:

I camped in a campground only once, in France, after years of camping "for real" back in my youth, and then I realized how lucky I'd been all along. Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for linking to my page Renee! I really did enjoy Come Home to Your Children, and according to my dashboard, you've helped a few others find that book! Enjoy the weekend with your family, as I'm sure you are.

Oh, Renee. My husband has been trying to convince me that we should put a composting toilet in our new home - since we're ripping out the bathroom and starting from scratch anyway. I've been hoping he's not serious but after hearing you and another intelligent woman say they're great, it kind of softens me to the idea. Afterall, flushing IS wierd.

Don't know about lumping me in with another "intelligent woman" but I would love a composting toilet. It's actually quite mind boggling to think we use clean water to flush away our waste, when we could actually compost it. It's something Damien and I have looked into a bit but can't pursue right now... but given the right conditions (ie: redesigning or building a bathroom) we would seriously look into this option.
