We live in Maine, in part, because we like snow, and lots of it. Last year at this time we enjoyed snowscenes like this one. This year, well this year, I'm not even taking photos of what the days look like in our neighborhood. In a word, it's bleak. Grey, rainy, cold and no snow!!

Snow is what makes winter fun. Snow is what keeps my children engaged for hours and hours while I work on creative projects like making Christmas gifts. Snow is what tires our bodies out as we sled, roll, build and shovel. Rain, not so much.
Being cooped up on these dark winter days with no snow has made this month unusually challenging for me. I alluded to it in my last post but the effect of this month's no-show snow is becoming increasingly apparent as I become more moody the longer we wait.

To find snow we have gone to the mountains but we can't do that everyday. Who knows, maybe with these warm, wet days all that snow has melted too. I sure hope not because I am counting on us finding some on next weekend's hike.

Speaking of our weekly hikes, Damien just published a post about our goal to have outdoor overnight trips once a month. Last month was the first month we couldn't pull it off since we started this year's backpacking season last April. This month of course with our Christmas trip to visit family we won't be going out either. But January we're on target for our yearly winter camp-out. And there just better be snow!
