Post vacation life

We returned from a three week vacation 2 days ago. Life is now about getting back into the groove. The weeks leading up to our vacation we're very busy with Damien working overtime, packing, running errands for our trip, scrapbooking for Mom & Dad's 40th wedding anniversary gift, and attending to all the details of leaving your house and life for almost one month. Whew - makes me tired just thinking about it. But now we're home and summer is in full swing and I'm trying to get my feet back on the ground after 3 weeks of laid back life.

One of the hardest things is coming back to more stuff. The nice thing about being away is that you have only x amount of suitcases, in our case 5, that you are responsible for. Coming home I have a whole house with way too many toys (my constant refrain), a tenant rental suite, a garden overgrown with weeds, a yard that looks more like a crop than lawn, not to mention the unending task of feeding everyone and providing clean clothes. So, I'm taking it in steps. The suitcases are all still in the front porch being unpacked as necessary, today the bills got paid and a few weeds were pulled, take out pizza was on the menu for supper. You get the picture.

The kids and I are slowly adjusting to the time change. Alberta is 2 hours behind Eastern Time. So, 9am (when I got up today) is actually 7am in Alberta. The kids have been sleeping in to which has made for 2 lovely mornings.

Oh, and I miss the Alberta skies! I will write a whole different blog on this subject. Oh my goodness, I loved the changing Alberta sky. In the past 2 days the weather here has been intermittently sunny, cloudy & muggy. I'm longing for that bright blue with stark white clouds and unending fields of canary yellow canola. I can't believe I'm actually feeling this way. I've never appreciated the Alberta landscape before. I'm sure I'll adjust to our treed, hilly landscape soon enough. I can't say I miss the wind, although a breeze on these muggy days would be welcome.

An interesting thing happened before we left for vacation. I got in touch with an old friend of mine, someone I grew up with. I found his website, through a google search and we ended up corresponding by e-mail. One of his sisters was a very good friend of mine in high school. In fact, she was my grad "date". Anyway, after our correspondence he put a link to my blog on his webpage . I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this since Craig, the friend I'm speaking of, is quite intelligent (PhD in Physics) and well read, well traveled etc. His friends, whom he has links to on his webpage, seem to be much the same. He's included a link to my blog along with all his other friends which has given me a little bit of an inferiority complex. Well, not really but I'm not sure if this homeschooling homemaker fits in with all those PhD's smile. Anyway, he's a friend from the past who has done some interesting things in his 31 years and I'm pleased to say I know him.

Parrots

One more thing: Tonight we watched an excellent movie The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill. This is suitable for all ages (G rating), has a captivating story is just beautiful to watch. Rent it.
