Last night we had a few of Damien's co-workers/friends over to our house for a pizza, beer and card playing night. Apparently some of Damien's co-workers like to hang out on Friday night after the work week. They invited him along but my husband, great guy that he is, wants to be with his family on a Friday night. But he also doesn't want to miss out on forming relationships with the people he works with. Enter pizza and beer night at our house.
The kids drank rootbeer and the adults drank the beverage of their choice, including homebrew (a yummy Porter). We ordered pizza and we cooked up little g-free english muffin pizzas for Damien in our oven. Then we played cards, all of us together. The kiddos were our sidekicks and filled in spots as our guests left. They loved it! They jump at any chance to meet new people, drink soda and eat pizza. It was all wrapped up by 9:00pm. The scene awaiting me in my kitchen wasn't so pleasant this morning (I didn't touch clean up last night) but the memories were. If any of Damien's co-workers are reading this (you know who you are) - it was fun to have you over. I hope we do it again.
And you know what? Beer bottles littering the kitchen counter, although messy, look pretty in the morning sunlight.
Now that is a great idea he had. Family, friends, beer and pizza sounds like a really fun night. Now if only you could get the friends to do the clean up...perfection!

Very nice idea. It is important to form friendly relationships with co-workers. We avoid many of my husband's staff parties b/c they invariably end up with alot of drunk adults... not really family-friendly events. But we do try and attend certain events and just leave early.
What a fun night! (minus the beer) Alcoholism kind of runs in my family, so I steer clear and am always a tad jealous when I hear of get-togethers where people don't loose themselves when drinking. I have always loved cards--- actually, I adore them. I think I need to play some cards soon.
Sounds like a fun night. And I love mixed-generational get togethers. I think kids and adults learn a lot from each other.
what fun! one can never go wrong with a pizza and beer party! nicola http://whichname.blogspot.com
Oh how fun! We love these types of nights and we really value finding people who think it's fun hanging out with our kids rather than escaping to late night hang outs. Our kids love the root beer pizza parties too!
(Wanna be friends ;)
sure, when can you come on over for pizza & (root)beer?

Renee & Damien,
I had a great time last night hanging out at your place! You have a wonderfully cozy home and your kids are so cool!!! Thanks for inviting us all over. Sorry about the disaster in the kitchen, but I'll make it up to you by cat-sitting, cooking, or whatever.
Anyway - I hope y'all have a good hike today (if you go - brrrr!!) and let's all try to get together again soon!
Cheers, Ethan

The kitchen wasn't really that bad! Just a bit messy from the day and evening. It's all cleaned up now and the enjoyable evening was well worth the time it took to put it back in order this morning.
Another plus, we came out of the evening with more beer than we brought into it - bonus!
