Our Homeschool Curriculum (When We're Not Moving)

My post on our homeschool curriculum is live today at Simple Homeschool. This of course, is what we do when we're not moving. For the last two months we have embraced unschooling. However, I look forward to finding a new school groove (with Daddy at home - yeehaw!) after we move.

Right now our curriculum (read the post at Simple Homeschool to see how I define curriculum) sits in a box, ready for the trailer.

Click over to join the conversation there and to learn what I use for teaching our kids the academic basics - reading, writing and math - during the elementary years.

PS. 7 days till we pull out. My husband is now officially unemployed, all part of the plan but unnerving regardless. The house is beehive of painting, packing, and planning. Friends helping with food and house stuff and stopping in to say goodbye. So this is what it feels like to be one week away from our move.

Hi there Renee! A friend of mine turned me on to your blog as she thought we had a lot in common!! My husband and I have two kiddos (which we HS) and we are on the road much of the year in our fifth wheel. We are from Texas but currently in TN.

I love what I have seen of your blog so far. I have put your blog on my reading list on the side bar of my blog so that I can keep up! Hope you get a chance to stop in and see me too. I'd love to get to know another traveling, homeschooling family! They are really few and far between!

    Sincerely,

    Shelby

Renee your post at Simple Homeschool was very helpful as usual. The links you have were great. I am looking more into TJE, and I love the idea of Math U See. Do you just use the student workbook or do you get the teachers manual as well? Do I really need it?

For the first couple "grades" I don't think the teacher text is all that necessary (though I did have it in case) but now that Celine is old enough to check her own work she uses the teacher guide for her level to check her answers. I do like having the DVD's because although the math itself is straightforward the math u see approach to understanding place value (tens, units and such) is really explained well in the videos.

I have owned all the teacher manuals and have only used the lower grade levels a few times but I still like having it "just in case" I need to clarify my understanding of something to explain to the kids.
