On the first of December

We're enjoying a four day stretch of no outside-the-home commitments. Though we usually have things going on every couple days our kids haven't been feeling completely well this week.

So we called off taekwondo and youth group and have stayed home, squished on the couch in the basement, next to the woodstove, watching Netflix and YouTube. And placing gear orders, lots of gear.

Christmastime's a comin' and with a thru-hike just around the corner this year's Christmas giving, and then some, is all gear.

Those who are well enough, which are the oldest three in our home, have been going out for walks along the river, up the mountain, and down again.

Apples are baking in the oven and we'll go out tonight, kids to their friends and Damien and I together (a date!) to celebrate my birthday, thirty eight tomorrow.

After a midweek warm spell with rain, that melted all the snow, the world is frosty and frozen again this weekend. All is as it should be on December 1st.

Happy 38th. I pray this year will be filled to overflowing with growth, laughter, and beauty in unexpected places.

Renee, Happy Birthday! Gear is a great gift!!  I'm a lurker on your blog, but enjoy it so much. My family is traveling the US in an RV August to August this year. We're currently in Maryland, and stopped at the Appalachian Trail office in Harpers Ferry yesterday. It was so fun to pick up a copy of AT Journeys and see a couple of your recipes in the issue from last spring! Can't wait to hear more about your planning, and then the journey itself. Hoping perhaps to pursue my own hike in a few years. Have a wonderful birthday tomorrow!

Happiest of birthdays Renee!   Love to see these pics - we had a "cold snap" Thanksgiving week which means we had to wear sweaters for a couple of hours here in Florida.
