Biologist Cowboy - Cleanliness Optional

My youngest two decided to be cowboys today. But even cowboys need to take a break from the open range now and then to investigate microscopic pond life.

In this photo Laurent is using a pipette to "suck up" minute wiggling animals from the water. He can stare at last year's flooded sandbox the pond, for what seems like hours, and find the smallest critters. He collected a few in an upturned mini-pylon (?) and was heart broken when it fell over spilling it's 3 prized specimens the size of the period at the end of this sentence. With a furrowed brow and a respect-for-the-dead intonation he kept murmuring to himself at lunch "I think I only lost 3".

Maybe we shouldn't have taught him quite so much of a respect for all living things. On another note, Laurent returned to cowboy like behavior this evening when I told him to wash his face. Kind of bothered that I reminded him he responded defensively, "I washed my face already, last night!" What can I say, he's my extremely inquisitive, sensitive hearted, dirty faced (I'm not even going to tell you how filthy his feet are) biologist cowboy and I love 'im!
