A job almost done

The basement is almost done. Our tenant moved in this weekend, in the midst of us finishing the bathroom and the floors. We're absolutely exhausted, our house is a disaster from not being cleaned for days, the yard is overgrown and the gardens weedy etc.... Our normal lives basically ceased to exist these past couple weeks, especially this last week when Damien and I stayed up till 1am every night working.

We still have to put on the baseboard and few small items. Oh and we still have to tile the stairs going down into the apartment. The fun part for me, although it wasn't so fun at 12am last night, has been sewing curtains. I needed to make a long curtain for the bedroom to hide an ugly shelf closet that we didn't have time to fix up. I found some great fabric, a sheet set actually, for $7.00 at Marden's. There was enough fabric to make matching curtains for all the windows in the apartment. We had intended to cover them with blinds but this was cheaper and in my opinion much brighter, funkier, and prettier. I love frugal, fun decorating. The fabric matches the tiles we choose for the steps and bathroom and the paint (offwhite an very light blue). It also matches the existing ugly blue and green toned paneling in the bedrooms. In my opinion it makes the paneling seem not so bad.

More pictures to follow once I get the rest of the curtains up in the rooms... Don't hold your breath as I'm taking a break this weekend.
