Skiing ~ Getting There & Back

Post two of five in my Ski Week series.

We turn left out our driveway and head into the heart of the Gaspésie mountains. These photos were taken over the course of three weeks. Each week the snow is piled on the evergreens and along the side of the road.

The days we've gone skiing the mountains themselves have been shrouded in cloud and snow, with brief breaks only of soft azure sky. But the drive there is bright and blue. And drive home we are treated to glorious sunsets of mauve, rose and orange, as Damien winds his way through the mountain pass.

Getting there (and back) is almost as beautiful as being there.

Oh we could use just a smidge of that snow here in the S. Rockies! You've never mentioned...being cold. Is that a non-issue? (Not while skiing, just in general.) In my days backcountry skiing and winter camping we made quinzhees to sleep in. I can so see you guys building one in your yard! (You tube has how to videos.) I'm enjoying Ski Week at Fimby even as I look forward to what's coming next.

I'm actually going to be talking about the cold (as far as outdoor activity goes) in this ski week series. Yes, it's cold! I wouldn't sleep outside in the yard. Damien and the kids might. I do crazy stuff in the woods but when I'm at home I'm very domestic and "give me my bed".
