I'm tired of writing three sentence-ish posts. I made the rule to keep my on-line time in check during these last couple hectic weeks of February but I'm almost through the worst of it and I'm ready to break the rule a little early. My blog, my rules. I can break them.
After our fabulous weekend together backpacking, hiking and camping in a log cabin together my parents came to our house for a work visit. My mom brought the hat that she finished knitting me for "Christmas". I love it! I chose the yarn and pattern. A new hat for me, made to order. I feel so loved.
During this week while mom and I manage the home and kids together (she does laundry, helps cook and has even done a little sewing for Damien - she rocks!) my father has been working at an amazing pace to paint the girl's room and attend to other home maintenance miscellanea. Give that man a tool and watch out. Dad's a builder by profession so my home is in good hands, the best.
The bedroom is almost done. The guys are out with the kids tonight picking a pale pink for one wall (we finally caved to Brienne's request) in an otherwise celery sprig green room. I hope to show complete before and after pics sometime later. Later when all this mess is cleaned up...
Last year around this time I wrote a guest post for Small Notebook titled Three Steps to Less Clutter in Kid's Rooms. Ha!! Removing all the junk from under Brienne's bed and closet and seeing it piled up in every other bedroom has shown me I am woefully remiss in following my own advice. My bad. I thought I was on top of it, I really did.
The upstairs floor of our house with our three bedrooms is a disaster zone right now and it literally pains me to think about going through all that "stuff" before putting back together the girls room. But part of me also looks forward to it; to give the girls a "new" bedroom with fresh green (and one pink) walls and cleaned-out toy and creative bins in time for spring.
So, all in all things are well. This hectic month of tenant upheaval, sickness (which I am all recovered from, thanks for asking), winter camping, home renovations and Laurent's 9th birthday is almost through. I'm so enjoying having my parents here. They are staying for Laurent's birthday and my mom has even offered to bake the cakes.
It's all very good. Very good indeed.
Very cool! Parents are the best!
awesome. you made my night. now, can you send your dad my way? please? pretty please? nicola http://whichname.blogspot.com
ah ur right tho its feels a lil stressful? is that the word im looking for? well u know what i mean!, now but once spring hits u will, and they will feel so good about everything uve done :) we did that last yr for our son....this yr tho...we will be sorting threw and packing totally different to last spring thats for sure! Packing selling and giving away...we still need to find out how much it will cost us to get a shipping container for all our stuff we do take with us!
How awesome are your parents!? Steve and I just had our offer accepted on a house and believe you me...it's a fixer upper. I'm so inept at home decorating. My blog just might turn into before and after pictures for the month of April ;)
They are awesome. I am so blessed.
I can see how we'll do just the same for our kids, in time. So, we better tune up our skills, because in not too many years from now our kids will be hoping that we can help us with maintaining their home maintenance miscellanea - can you imagine?!? It's just amazing how one generation becomes the next. Looking forward to seeing your fresh pink wall:!
My father-in-law is the same way. If you ask him sweetly and offer food. He becomes the "Jack of all trades". You have a lot of projects going on and I know you will feel great when they are all done. I can't wait to see your after pics.

i'm wanting to paint our girls room too. it's got a huge mural that daddy painted years ago but we are tired of it. something new is in order. and that mess is nothing compared to having three girls sharing a room that is smaller than that one!! :0) great that you have family around to help!
Your rooms seem to resemble my studio space...but mine's filled with a little more chaos (: All this moving around reminds me of spring in growing up years. We would gather all our things in bins, move them out of the room and commence with the spring clean! Walls were scrubbed, curtains washed, warm linens replaced with light airy ones, and toys sorted. Too bad this practice didn't carry over into my adult years (: I'm lucky if I have the basics done by the end of summer! (:
The hat is beautiful Renee~ Just love the shape and colors. I hope you've gotten more stuff done and things are getting back to normal. I find that it's always good to do projects like that. I clean out so much stuff I don't need!
My mom just made me a scarf and let me pick out the colors too ;) I can't wait till she can make hats!
I too try to clean things out consistently, but sometimes a pile is as clean as its gonna get. Can't wait to see the "after" pics.

Are those pictures of my house? No - the light is perfect. Even your messes are beautiful!
