Four down, 2 more to go.
Tonight we planted the Jacob's Cattle bush beans, Soldier pole beans, corn and decorative gourds. The gourds were volunteer seedlings from the compost heap. The beans will be harvested and eaten as dried beans. We eat A LOT of dried beans and I'm curious to find out if we can grow enough to put even a dent into what we order each month through our bulk buying club. Which is approximately 20-30lbs of dried beans & lentils each month, including soybeans to make our own soymilk. If nothing else growing beans is easy.
Next week we'll plant a few pepper and sunflower seedlings and the on-the-ground beds will be done. Still waiting on the soil test for filling the raised bed. Peas plants are 1.5 ft high and carrots tops are 2 inches up. Little white berries are forming on the strawberries. Here is Brienne planting her annual Aster seedlings in the kitchen garden. The zinnia seeds she planted the end of April finally germinated but have already suffered serious pest damage so we replaced them with something else. I have no patience for pestilence this early in the season.
