Wood Work

That was a great weekend. A busy, working weekend but the most enjoyable kind of work there is.

Work done with friends. Work with a very tangible reward, heat for our homes this winter. Work that engages our body and gives the kids a chance to operate power tools. Work that involves the whole family. Work that is rewarded with shared meals, lots of laughter and a true sense of accomplishment.

That was our weekend. We have enough wood for winter and so do they.

We still have more to do. This huge pile needs to be stacked for burning in our wood stove. But the big jobs of sawing and splitting are done. And now we can move onto other October projects and activities -  a music festival next weekend, backpacking after that, more running races, a family visit, and my trip to Allume. And simply enjoying the beauty that is our backyard. I do love this time of year.

Oh that looks so good, and satisfying! Just moved to a place with partial wood heat, and have a stack of logs dumped in our front yard that need splitting. Still debating using a splitter machine from the neighbors, or hand-doing it ... I think my desire to have it done will push in favor of the machine, leaving a smaller pile for the joys of hatchet swinging :).
