small notebook, small world

{photo credit: Brienne Tougas - the kids are taking such great photos these days!)

FIMBY has been a quiet blog for the past couple weeks, understandable given the recent events. And I haven't posted anything actually useful for at least a month. As much as I like posting photos and random thoughts about homeschooling, organic gardening and urban living I do like to write something now and then that could be helpful to someone. A soap recipe, a homemaking how-to, a craft idea.

Today Small Notebook is posting a tutorial written by yours truly entitled 3 Steps to Less Clutter in the Kids' Rooms. Artsy? No. Pretty? Not particularly. Useful? I sure hope so.

I pitched the guest post idea to Rachel this January while we were organizing the kiddos' rooms. I thought "hey I might be onto something here and this information could be helpful to other people". But I also know that people don't necessarily come to FIMBY to read about de-cluttering (what do you all come for exactly???) but that Rachel gets a lot of readers coming to her blog for that very purpose.

Rachel liked the idea and thus my first guest post was born. It only took 2 months to write the darn thing but I'm very happy with how it turned out. Small Notebook has quite a few readers, more than FIMBY at least, so the article already has a smattering of comments and discussion going on - how fun!

So friends if you want to know how our family tackles keeping kid stuff under control you can pop on over to read all about it. While you're there take a look around. Rachel has a very nice blog. Simple, well organized and aesthetically pleasing. It's a real pleasure to be featured there today. Thanks Rachel for letting me contribute!

On another note, equally pleasing, I got a little card in the mail today that reminded me just how small this internet world really is.

Shawna, from Bella Luna, sent me a happy spring equinox/sympathy card in the mail. Like real mail that gets delivered to your street address. The card is her own beautiful photography and her hand written message inside brightened my day. Thank you Shawna!

The world is a small place and there are kind people in it. This is good to remember.

I am glad to have found you, it is a wonderful guest post! I often read blogs not for usefulness, but because I like to hear other people's stories... if that makes you feel any better! :)

Oh wow, speedy mail! I'm glad you got the card already. It was just luck and kindness that I had your address and those are cards I won during the Shutter Sisters giveaway in December. I suppose that makes it a really small world, and I'm very glad to have found this corner of it.

Shawna's last blog post... spring into action!
