my beautiful boy

It seems a bit odd to write a post about my son the day before my daughter's birthday. But I just happened to take a couple of these photos yesterday and they melted my heart.

Laurent was a challenging baby. In retrospect he was probably allergic/sensitive to something in my diet that I just wasn't astute or informed enough to figure out. Basically he was colicky and his whole first year was difficult. I had a 2 year old at the same time and it was a tiring, patience trying time of my life. I grew a lot and then he grew out of it.

With such an "auspicious" start I might have worried about his future childhood. I needn't have. Since about 18 months when he was finally able to really communicate and motor around quite independently he has been my sunshine boy. In fact it took a visit from family we rarely see to point this out to me; his sunshine-y quality.

He's quite simply a fun-to-be-around, energetic, rarely down, amiable, people loving and sensitive hearted boy. I am so blessed to call him my son. And except for that first year and a little bit of his 2's when we were establishing who was in charge, raising him has been a pleasure, truly.

Laurent I'm so happy you're my son.

Oh renee-- I've got chills and tears in my eyes. I have a sweet boy just like that in my house, and as he's the oldest, I think I sometimes forget to tell him just that. You're post has me shutting my computer and going to give him a hug. thanks.

A hug & a smile :>) There is no one created JUST like Laurent ~ God certainly did a fantastic job and He smiles on Laurent EVERY day! Give him a hug from Sage & I. It will be a pleasure to see what wonderful, lucky woman he will choose for a partner. (of course ~ that's many mountain climbs, many adventures and MANY years from now.

This sunshine of my life leaving ME to bind his heart to another woman's - ack! Don't talk about it!!

No seriously, as long as she adores my son as much as I do I will love the woman Laurent is someday (God willing) bound to marry.

Thanks Jody (from someone who knows him) for your kind words about Laurent.

Your son = adorable. There is definitely a kindness in his eyes.. Reminds me of my brother and my dad in the past. I can't wait to see my brother and tell him how cute he is. He's gonna love it ;)

I remember those early days with our colicky boys. Those days pass (albeit sometimes slowly) and then you get to discover the little gems that you have. I feel the same about Adam and sometimes I even miss that little baby who had to be on my back all the time for years.

Oh Annmarie - thanks for stopping by to say hi. I remember those days now, us walking our babes around the neighborhood, so fondly. The times we cried together, nursed together, laughed together. Lots of laughing. I am and always was so thankful for you in my life during that difficult time of Laurent's infancy.
