Monday Mama Thoughts

Perhaps it was reading Lori's lovely post this morning, which reminded me once again (like I need reminding when my eldest is almost as high as my shoulder) how my babies are way past babies and growing much too fast</b>. If not because of those thoughts it certainly was because of the heat, 85F at 10am, that I decided to spend part of the morning in my bathing suit, on the trampoline with the sprinkler and the kids.

And it was so much fun! Laugh out loud, sweet "I love you mommy" thank you's kind of fun.

I go through too many of my days not experiencing the sparkle that shines in my children's eyes when I spend time with them on their terms. Their thrilled and delighted laughter that I am having fun and delighting in them.

Not all my efforts at mommy-time are so rewarding. Sometimes what I give doesn't seem to be enough, "mommy now can you..., mommy when can you...". Other times the activity is boring for the kids or for me. But today we had a golden time together that was well worth the price of catching up on Monday's mornings tasks later in the day.

Of course I was too busy having fun with my kids to take any pictures of my kids. But I have this photo from yesterday's trip to Range Pond. Where Brienne for the first time in 5 years of beach trips ventured out alone with Celine and Laurent into deeper water. While I watched and realized I no longer have a little one at the water's edge.

I love this, "Laugh out loud, sweet "I love you mommy" thank you's kind of fun." --- because I can so understand that! I read to our 8yo the other day, just he and I, nothing special, I thought, and he spontaneously hugged me about a half dozen times during the reading, and when we were done, he said, "Thanks for reading with me."

Ack! Teary-eyed moment! Had I really gone so long reading to him that he thought it was a special, special thing?

It's just so easy to get sidetracked by life (uh, and computers).
