In response to the times

In response to the times

It’s time to talk about the conclusions I’ve been drawing from my life experience and “the state of the world”, as filtered through the lens of this advice: "Prepare for what you’ve already been through, plus a bit more."

Attempts to invalidate a movement, what is truth, and how do we build a just society

Attempts to invalidate a movement, what is truth, and how do we build a just society

Each of us is working on the weft and warp of building a society from our diversity of belief, opinions, experiences, frameworks, and theories. And in that weaving sometimes we’ll meet up and touch the hands and join the causes of those who seem very different from us (I should hope so) and sometimes we’ll feel some distance from those we usually align with (also, I should hope so).

The ethics of eating animals (and why I do it anyway)

The ethics of eating animals (and why I do it anyway)

How is one supposed to eat and live in this culture? In this age? In spite of writing this series, I'm not actively seeking an answer to that question right now. It hangs in my life as an unknown.

How to define health and what food guru can I trust?

How to define health and what food guru can I trust?

With all the options of our North American diet, conflicting scientific data, advertising, and evolutionary biology not caught up with huge societal changes of the agricultural, industrial, and technological revolutions, the message I internalized was this: I can't be trusted to just follow my taste buds or cravings to the best diet. My body will betray me.
