Autumn's flowers

We have a couple friends in the hospital. After a bowl of three sisters soup (pumpkin, green beans, kidney beans) for supper we're driving down to Portland, where they both are, to visit them this evening. So this morning I went out to harvest what I could find still blooming in my yard. I picked these flowers and made up three bouquets, one for each and one for our table. I love delivering these gifts of the season from my very own garden.

While I was out rambling through my little yard this morning I decided to cut the best of my hydrangea blossoms for drying. I've been so inspired by posts I've read, particularly this one by GardenMama, I just had to try it for myself.

There's been a lot of flower & foliage autumn beauty in blogs I read lately. If you feel lacking in that department I encourage you to check these out; round up of fall bokeh at Pioneer Woman, a fall yellow collage at Creative Kismet, goldenrod history and medicine at the (always amazing) 5 Orange Potatoes.

And as promised a couple more weekend fair photos:

The dried hydrangeas remind me of Rodney's mum... She used to go to this old abandoned house in Poland and pick the most amazing bouquets of hydrangeas.. Then she'd dry them and put them in big baskets. Gorgeous! Love your photos, Renee.

I had never heard of Three Sisters Soup. It sounds amazing! I just forwarded some recipes I found online to the chef in our house (aka Steve). Yummy! And, I also convinced him we need to plant more flowers next year. I love what I've been seeing come out of your garden! Wishing your friends a speedy recovery...
