You'll all have to wait a little longer for that much anticipated salad post because I was just too tired today to finish it. You see I'm weaning myself off my afternoon cup of black tea. I didn't realize how much of hit it gave me, it's just tea after all. But for 2 days I haven't been drinking it and I am just so tired in the afternoons (when I usually write). No tea, no salad post.
Anyone else have experience with giving up afternoon caffeine? I'm still holding on tight to my morning cup of coffee. Just thinking about it makes me excited to get up tomorrow morning. I'm pathetic I know, hopelessly "addicted" as my non-caffeine loving, super dietary disciplined husband might say.
i don't do morning caffeine because it really messes my system up and instead of waking me up, i can't concentrate the rest of the day. so instead i do afternoon or night coffee. by night time i don't need it, and i just enjoy my coffee for... enjoyment.(unless i'm starting work after 9pm, then i waaaant it!)
but man, those afternoon lows are hard to get through and it's sure nice to have caffeine to do the trick. i don't think i do it regularly enough to always need it, but i have other vices that make up for my lack of caffeine addiction. :O)
ps. thanks for your nice comment today!

Ah...morning coffee. I'll never give that up! As for the afternoon, I've found that those late-day blahs are often related (at least for me) to dehydration or low blood sugar, or both. I try to have a protein-rich snack like yogurt with nuts/fruit, and that tends to give me a bit of a boost. Once in a while, though, I'll have a cup of coffee. What the heck? Why deprive myself? :)
I do occasionally drink coffee in the afternoon and then I can't fall asleep at night. Not sure if it's worth it for that. But man some days I NEED that coffee!
I do love my morning cup of coffee. I try to stick to caffeine free tea the rest of the day- by still drinking the tea it makes me feel like I'm getting a treat. Occasionally though, if I'm really struggling with staying awake, I have a cup of regular tea. Good luck on your detox :-)

You make me laugh. You sound like Mr. Savvy and me, except reversed; he needs caffeine to function in the morning, and after reading your post yesterday, I told him he was addicted. He couldn't believe it.
If getting excited about your next cup of coffee means you're addicted, I think I'm addicted to food. I love to wake up just so I can plan what I'm going to eat next. There are worse addictions to have!

I don't think I NEED my morning coffee to function, but I sure do look forward to it. Is that denial?
In any case, if caffeine is your worst vice hoorah. Better than drink or nicotine or drugs.
It think the 4th day is the charm. Yesterday I was full of energy all day with no black tea in the afternoon. Hope this keeps up.
Yikes! The only time I gave up caffeine was when I was pregnant with my girls and nursing. It was easy then since I was doing it for them. But, if I had to give it up now, it would probably be a no go. I am worse now than I have ever been, so I wish you all the luck in the world.
Well you're a better mom than me than! I gave it up with my first - wanted to do everything just right. But I was too tired with my other babies, having to care for toddlers and a baby. I needed that morning boost.
I'm not giving up caffeine all together, just whittling down the habit a little. smile

nope - just commiseration. i had to laugh at your description of looking forward to your cup of coffee in the morning - i tried to describe how delightful it is to look forward to the morning for just that reason and my husband just didn't get it (and he DRINKS coffee!). i've tried coming off of an illness to wean myself off of the afternoon caffeine, but really, it gets me through a hard part of the day with the kids, with myself, so...i do it. good luck!
