Ok, so it might not be a tale as old as time, but the “trying new things as a midlife couple” is definitely stereotypical.
I would hope we keep trying new things throughout our lifetimes and our marriage. But our move to Nova Scotia and becoming empty nesters has created the perfect conditions to start new things.
Enter ATVing.
I didn’t really see this one coming. I definitely wanted some type of off-road vehicle on the property for hard-core, emergency preparedness type situations. I was thinking a quad.
But living in Nova Scotia offers some unique opportunities, namely easy trail access right from our back door and a vast network of trails throughout the whole province. When we considered this proximity benefit in light of our general backcountry wanderlust and adventuring spirit getting an ATV made a lot of sense.
And so here we are, side by side owners and brand new ATV’ers.

He’s going back to his childhood a bit in this activity. I grew up in town so this is entirely new for me. Both are part of the appeal.

I made a video about our decision making process and first day’s riding footage.
Now I’m going to need a GoPro and eventually a drone camera. Not joking.
