In a departure from our usual do-everything-as-a-family routine Laurent & I went snowshoeing, just the two of us, yesterday afternoon. The plan was to go as a family but Damien was thoroughly worn out after 1 1/2 hours of shoveling & heaving snow off our driveway earlier in the day. Together with the fact that Brienne tires quickly in deep snow and spends most of the time whining, a full fledged family excursion seemed more work than recreation.
However, after a weekend of indoor house work (prepping for kitchen painting), yet another foot of fresh snow and a gorgeous blue sky afternoon there was no way I was staying home. So Laurent & I went on a date - and we had a blast. Our time together confirmed what I've already found to be true - spending time alone with my individual children is SO enjoyable.
We trekked through the snow, made snow angels, fell down lots, often on purpose and had a great snowball fight. And I really appreciated Laurent and enjoyed him as an adventuresome, full of life individual not simply my son.
