Pleasant Mountain lives up to its name

We camped this last weekend at Pleasant Mountain Camping Area on Moose Pond & at the base of Pleasant Mountain. It was another wonderful camping weekend. Here's the pics to prove it:

The campground was good even if there were no other kindred tenters. It was still early in the camping season so it was really quiet and although lots of permanent camping trailers (in various states of disrepair) were set up we were some of the few actual warm bodied guests. Our site was on the water, next to the main beach & playground area. Since there were virtually no other campers we had these to ourselves.

The other really great feature of this campground, which I didn't realize when I booked it, is that the trailhead is just across the road, so we didn't have to drive to find a hike. The hike itself was awesome. Our kids were real troopers and Brienne especially was tired on the way down but with a little singing and lots of praise she persisted - way to go Brienne. They are such great hikers, I'm so proud of them!

After our hike Saturday we took a cooling dip in the lake and then all napped in the tent - ahh... Sunday morning Damien & I packed up and watched the kids while they swam. Damien also spent some time on the beach and in the lake. Perhaps too much time as he was sick at home yesterday with sun stroke!

We stopped at Bridgton for picnic lunch on our way home Sunday afternoon. By bedtime we were unpacked & cleaned - that's the way to camp!

Highlights of this trip:

  • Awesome conversations and character building with the kids
  • Listening to the water, wind and loons
  • Finding and reading Meeting Him in The Wilderness by Lois Ellen Olsen. An out of print book that was in the campground stacks.
  • Lots of amphibians & insects to be found - Laurent was in his element

Looks like you had a wonderful 48-hour vacation! Great early morning photo; a perfect setting for a quiet canoe trip.
