Celebrating our 9th on the 10th

Yesterday was our 9 year anniversary. To celebrate we took the kids to Boothbay Harbor. Yes, we chose to spend our anniversary with our kids! When we go interesting places we like having the kids with us because we know they enjoy it. Our friend offered to babysit them overnight, she was camping for the week at our church's family camp. I just wasn't sure about them spending the night away from us in a strange setting.

Beachcombing with Daddy

Boothbay Harbor is a classic Maine coastal tourist town with gorgeous seaside homes, shops, restaurants, harbor full of boats etc... Initially we thought we'd eat supper at a Thai restaurant but then I got a hankering for a lobster roll- we were on the coast afterall.

Once in awhile I want something like this so we found a quaint diner and ordered an artery clogging meal of fries, fried haddock (for the kids), lobster roll (for me), shrimp (for Damien). As a bonus the kids got a free diner classic - chocolate milk - how's that for a good vegan family!! Yikes! It was fun but I felt pretty lethargic after all that.

Happy Anniversary Babe

After supper we found a beach to walk and explore. Laurent was looking for "challenges" as he called them. Rocks that posed a challenge for him to climb. He is such a little boy and I want to make sure to nurture those desires in him so that he grows into a man capable of conquering life's challenges. We collected shells and beach glass and then proceeded to lose most of it because the bag we were carrying got a hole. The kids ate tiny wild raspberries growing along the path. We watched the sunset and the sky turn hazy blue and pink - very romantic except for the kids!!

Brienne at Ocean Point

It was a great way to spend our anniversary. Some year we want to camp in the area and take a whale watching trip with the kids. We're only an hour and 20 minutes away but it would be a lovely area to camp - great campgrounds, lots to do and just plain beautiful.

Happy 9th anniversary! Maine sounds like a beautiful place to celebrate. When I see all the pictures you post, it makes me dream and want to live someplace like that. It must be nice to know that you are where God wants you to be.

Happy 9th Anniversary you guys! You look so happy and in love, that is what I love to see. Thank you for sharing your special day and pictures with us. Celine, Laurent & Brienne all look so tanned and cute as ever. You are very lucky to live so close to the ocean and I am glad you appreciate it so much.

Happy 9th Anniversary to you guys. Sounds like you guys had a wonderful day. Sometimes its nice to have the children with you to share your special day. It sounds like it is quite close to where you live. I think if I lived that close to the ocean, I would be there very often picnicing and camping and hanging out. (I am hoping we get to do a little such touring when we come to visit.) It sounds like there is a lot to see when we get there. I love the ocean (it must be my Dutch Heritage that makes me feel like I am "home" when I am near the ocean.)

Mom, we can't wait to take you the ocean when you come! We won't be swimming in October but the beaches will be beautiful for beach combing. I'm also hoping to take you to a classic Maine country fair- kind of like Amanda described this weekend. We'll see what's happening around that time. We are so pleased that you are coming out to visit smile It will be wonderful to spend all that time together and show you this place that we love!
