making lotion

My latest attempt at making beautiful and natural skincare products is body lotion. I literally whipped up a batch this afternoon. It looks and smells good enough to eat, which you could without any harm. No toxins, anti-bacterials, preservatives or unpronouncables. This is a new experiment for me and I think I'll keep one batch in the fridge so it keeps better. I smeared the pan "drippings" on my hands and it feels smooth and luscious - oh, that's a great word for a gray January afternoon!

Ingredients: distilled water, calendula infused olive oil, cocoa butter, almond oil, beeswax, vitamin e, grapefruit seed extract, teeny bit of borax.

How did it turn out Renee?? I would LOVE to try some!! I just came from a website recently where they tested for products, which claimed to be made with organics. The test failed for many companies including a line from Dove and Face to Face (just to name a couple). I feel ripped. :( The organic "soap" actually wasn't soap at all but rather, a chemical detergent. Yuck!

...just a bit of shameless promotion. I would really love to get my hands on some of this girl! :)))

I think this lotion can be called a balm vs. a lotion. It has gotten thick and I find it delightfully decadent. Because of the high percentage of cocoa butter it smells like chocolate and I want to eat it every time I use it. It's quite water repellent and provides a nice moisturizing barrier on my hands. I've been using a small amount on my face at night as well. I think it would be too heavy for summer use but I don't usually use any moisturizer during that season. I'm pleased with the results.
