Out and About this week

The kids and I enjoyed some great field trips this week. Firstly, on Tuesday we joined a homeschooling group at Nezinscot Farm. This is an organic farm in Turner, 10 minutes north of Auburn (where we live). They raise chickens, beef, pigs, goats, sheep, llamas and dairy cows. As well as a menagerie of barnyard cats and kittens. They also make and sell yarn and have a fantastic bakery and little health food store. A very fun place to visit and eat at - baked goods to die for!

Anyway, they took our small group on a tour to see the milking parlor, the kids (baby goats), the lambs, the chickens and calves, and a few other things I can't remember. The kids (my children) and I also enjoyed muffins and cookies - yum. It was a great morning and a good excuse to wear my new [http://renee.tougas.net/tiki-browse_image.php?imageId=610|rubber boots]. I'm pretty psyched about these boots as they are the coolest thing in my wardrobe right now. And a total necessary item for visiting a Maine farm in spring (also known as mud season).

Our second great outing this week was on Friday. We live 5 minutes away from a ravine. We walk to the playground there often. People had told us there was a hiking path behind the ice arena/parks & rec gym. (This gym is where we meet our homeschool group every Monday). On Friday we decided to check it out - what a great time it was. It was like discovering a hidden lost treasure. I had no idea this gem was just a 10 minute walk from our house. It reminded me of the off-the-beaten-track trails in Edmonton's river valley. It was such a delight to hike here with the kids. We had to turn back before we reached the end of the trail so I don't know how long it is, maybe a mile. The kids LOVED it and didn't want to come back home. This is my favorite part of being a stay at home/homeschooling mom - getting out and exploring our world.

I've downloaded more photos in our [http://renee.tougas.net/tiki-browse_gallery.php?galleryId=39|May Gallery]. Some are pretty funny - Celine has knack for taking crazy pictures.
