love, marriage and a dinner out

We celebrated our 13th anniversary last Friday night. We went to Portland, our favorite Maine city hang-out and ate supper at a divine "real food" restaurant. An innovative local place with vegan, veggie and even gluten and corn free options. It was so wonderful. I get wistful even now, in the midst of this crazy week, just thinking about it. Good food and the best of company.

Turns out the restaurant was having an anniversary celebration of their own and were offering a wicked good deal of a 4 course meal for $20! Wow, we really lucked out. Like a little present to us for our anniversary. We're not gift givers around here - way too frugal and it's neither of our love languages. I'm content with a meal out together. We did something else that night. No! Not that silly. I wouldn't talk about such things on this family friendly blog (tsk, tsk...) What we did was attend this. But that is just a teaser since I have photos to share of that event in another post. But back to the topic of marriage (quickly before I close this out and get back to cleaning up the kitchen). I wrote a post about the challenges of mountain man being married to homebody woman over at our family adventure blog earlier this week. If you'd like to get a peak at this crazy romance of ours and how we're "working on making it work" head over and take a look. Just so you know it isn't all naturally sweetened lollipops and organic roses in the Tougas household. Oh, and I really wanted to end with The Anniversary Song by Cowboy Junkies. It's an absolute favorite of mine and sums up how I feel about celebrating 13 years of being married. Please do listen and get ready to groove to that funky guitar riff.

I'm hoping you get the full version. If not, oh well, I tried.

we were married the same year as you were! Happy Anniversary. I agree that getting gifts is ok, but going out to dinner and spending time together is even better. I think we do have the same husbands after reading your description. It's very amazing, the likeness. Hope you're having a great day! Smiles, Kyndale

Our 15th anniversary was today and we got out for lunch then took a 30 minute drive to a little town where we bought garden stones. Strange date but enjoyable; boy our mini-van was quiet (so we could hear eachother) without the three kids in the back chatting up a storm. I'm thrilled about 15 years and wonder what our 30th anniversary will look like?! (my husband thinks we'll head to Europe which is fine with me)
