There's no easy path to raising kids. But in a society where most kids go to school, choosing an alternative path necessarily brings more resistance and effort.

I had failed as a mother not in a vague, ambiguous sense, I had failed in a very concrete way. I had forgotten to take portraits of Celine in her dress.

Our homeschool community had a Prom this spring. Our beautiful, teenaged and young adult kids in fancy clothes, being feted and photographed by their grey-tinged, a wee bit wrinkled, camera-happy, tired but proud parents.
