We have become home "schoolers" in every sense of the word. Our lives revolve around our kids' schooling. Life has always revolved around our kid's overall well-being and education, but now it's actual classes and coursework, deadlines and applications. Helping them achieve their goals now and for the future.

In October, life kicks into a gear that is challenging and stretching. And in that transition I feel ill-equipped as a career "relaxed" homeschooler for this change. But maybe everyone feels that way, homeschooler or not. Maybe we all feel dragged along by the machine.

The cicadas started "singing" two weeks ago. I noticed it on Sunday night, July 8th, as the girls and I drove back into the city from a weekend in Ontario. And it hit me, this is high summer. Summer in full gear.

We have gained so much from being members of our homeschool co-op; a social life and friends, academic experience, and participation in the yearly drama production - an all-hands-on-deck community endeavor.

The potential of community

When I think about how many problems exist in the world and all the ways in which we need to heal, restore, repair, bring peace and justice to our neighborhoods and society, I look at the capabilities of this group of dedicated and Christ-inspired families and I have hope that change is possible.
