Mid-Winter: Crafting

I had high hopes for a creative project I wanted to do this month. Things have not gone as planned but the pieces are still there (and aren't they pretty?), waiting for my next round of inspiration and time.

The kids are enjoying a mid-winter break with more time for crafting, gaming (of the tabletop variety), and drawing.

In a way, these kids of mine are my inspiration. They're not afraid to try, or afraid to fail. They know what they like and they keep working at it, diligently, till they can create what they imagine. I want to be like them.

I'm due for a dose of intrepid creative energy. I always sense it in your home - could you please diffuse it like oil and send me some?! I love the colours of your works in progress. They shall come to form in due time. love, Mom

I love those colors too Mom. I've curated wool sweaters now for a couple months, slowing building a stash of colors that "speak to me". My intention is to craft them into a repurposed sweater, but I'm getting stuck.... :)

I love the cell phone case! I crocheted one a few years ago...need to dig it out again. :)

It's a pop tart. Brienne wishes we'd eat them. We ate them a few times on the trail. Mostly trail magic and from hostel hiker boxes.

        Hah, I didn't get that---cute!

We did not eat Pop Tarts on the AT at all (that much sugar in the morning + hiking = nauseous) until we got somewhere on the Florida Trail where breakfast items were very limiting and Pop Tarts were our only option. I don't recommend it or get the allure of them.

My crafting is so very simple. An easy cross stich and some simple knitting are in my basket. It is more important for me to be doing than completing. My word for the year is accomplish. By picking up my simple craft and doing I am begging to slowly accomplish .

Robyn and I made some legwarmers and matching mittens out of old wool sweaters, warm as all get out, no pretty stitching though, now I'm inspired to add some decoration. Thanks

Also are those fimo-ish characters home made? awesome. And I would be amiss if I didn't ask who the drawing is of, and what kid of markers?

Anna, I made mittens three years ago out of a felted wool sweater and they are beautiful and one of my favorite things I've ever made for myself. This inspired me to make a sweater, out of other sweaters, but it's a slow go!

Yes, fimo clay figurines of the kids. They are their RPG (Role playing game) characters. And the drawing by Celine, it's a character that Celine made up to play in her online teen homeschool RPG.

I just showed Bobby (9) the fimo characters and he was inspired and suggested we make a fimo chess set creating the prices in a DC vs Marvel theme. (I'm Marvel he's DC)

Great Idea! You might get some more ideas from this post, specifically about polymer clay chess figures.

The kids think your DC vs. Marvel is cool!

Also, three years ago Celine was commissioned to create a chess set for someone. I never blogged about it, but here are a couple photos from that project:

    Wow!!

    Inspiring

Bobby just said the pawns could be henchmen from Lego Batman

Celine that chess set is remarkable, the workmanship looks incredible.

    Thanks for sharing
