Summer's Arrival

Although summer doesn't officially start until later this week the season kicked off at our house when my mom arrived last Thursday for a 10 day visit. Her visit is the first of several with both Damien's and my family planned for this summer and fall. She came to watch our recital last weekend and then stayed for an additional week of hanging out, feasting, shopping and other summer fun.

Friday was a golden day in which we enjoyed the best summer has to offer. The kids, my mom & I went to the local beach in the afternoon for our first lake swim of the season - absolutely gorgeous! We came home, had an outdoor grilled supper with cold beer. Lit a fire (we borrowed our neighbor's portable metal fire pit) and had friends join us for an evening of sitting, talking and singing around the fire. All the while, the kiddos jumped on the trampoline and ran around chasing each other with pool noodles.

A perfect summer day really, too bad my dad wasn't here to enjoy it also. But he's working back in Alberta finishing up jobs before moving permanently out east in the fall. Having my mom visit has been splendid. The kids have loved taking turns sleeping with Nana. She's done laundry, cleaned my house and helped in the garden. Babysat so we could go on a date and treated us in many other ways. Thanks so much mom for the wonderful visit. Your arrival brought summer!
