Settling in

We've been in our house just over one week. We are mostly unpacked, still have to organize the front porch and the garage. This past weekend was exhausting. I spent 10 hours cleaning our house Thurs, Fri & Sat. Yesterday we took a day of rest, as the Sabbath should be, and enjoyed a church BBQ and a restful afternoon and evening. My whole body ached though - my hands were sore from scrubbing and my knees are bruised. But it's all done - we got our security deposit back yesterday and we are officially done living at our old place. So now all of our energies are focused on OUR house.

It feels really good to be here. Yes, there is lots of projects we want to do and plans we have (that of course involve $$$) but it's so nice to be in our own place. I like working towards something that I have ownership in. We don't intend to spend a lot of money (because we don't have any left!) right off, but slowly work our way through the rooms starting with the living/learning room area. We are reconsidering taking the paneling off the wall altogether - we'll see.

In the future I really want to upgrade the appliances and redo the dining/kitchen floor - which is lino over hardwood. The appliances are probably 15-20 years old and were top of the line in their time (Jenn Air stove & oven, Sub Zero fridge) , which is why they have lasted so well. But they are quite dated now and I'm sure that fridge is a huge energy hog - something we don't want in our home.

Anyway, I am rambling on, on....

Here's photo of our galley kitchen area all unpacked.

This is the food prep area that is attached to the kitchen dining area. You can see our back fence from the window.
