Crafty Mama

Well, it's that time of year again - cooler weather, indoors more. Time to get crafty. This morning my friend Casey came over and taught me how to crochet past the basic chain. Yeah, I'm learning something. So, I've started my first skull-cap type winter hat. Don't tell Brienne and Laurent but Celine is hoping to crochet blankets for their dolls for Christmas.

This past week I've been busy sewing pillows for our newly painted living room. I still have lots of fabric that our landlady in NJ gave me. She was a seamstress and had odds and ends of beautiful tapestry fabrics. Now I can finally put them to good use in decorating our home. I love it! I can't sew a piece of clothing to save my life - just don't like following patterns and directions. But, I do like easy things like square pillows and basic valences. I'm not making curtains for the living room until we get the trim around the windows.

Yesterday we spent a project day at home and I sewed for the kids. Laurent has been begging me to make him a doll. Well, I've never made a doll before so it was a fun experiment. Celine wanted a pillow for her room and Brienne wanted a worship banner. It was great fun, hanging out together inside on a rainy day and sewing.

The rain turned to snow today and looks like we'll get more this weekend. We are headed into a long 4 day weekend now. Tomorrow's Thanksgiving and then Damien has Friday off and we'll celebrate Brienne's 3rd birthday. Then Saturday and Sunday we decorate for Christmas. That's our tradition - to decorate the weekend after Thanksgiving. Although we won't put the tree up yet. I can't believe it's already that time of year. This fall went so fast.

Very impressive! I can't wait to see your hat. Last night I spent an hour on line attempting to find a poncho pattern to knit...key word is EASY. I think I'll end up crocheting one...now all I need to do is learn how to do that and I'll be set! Yes this week I have been bored... although the list of 'to do's' is always long and dreadful I love making things. It's hard to sit infront of the TV or anywhere for that matter and not be busy with my fingers. I love the doll by the way. Did you use a outline? I am a wing-it kind of hobbiest. Sewing that bunny for Mom T last year was a real stretch for me and my nature. Can you post a pic of your room when it is all done?
