It's my Birthday!

I've never been shy about sharing my birthday with people. I'm not a gift type person so I'm not expecting presents but I love to feel special. You can blame my mother for that.

Birthday's were a big deal. Parties (one for all the relatives - I have many, and one for the friends), cakes, special foods and activities. And that was back when butter, sugar and flour were our friends. My mom is an amazing cook and baker and birthdays were a gastronomic delight.

Fast forward to now. I am the mom, I don't bake, at least not the kind of foods I grew up eating, and my own mom lives (sniff, sniff) a good 12 hour drive away. No worries, I've a got a great husband who gets up at 5:30am to put together a special little "birthday coupon" (who knew my husband could scrapbook!) good for: one macro camera accessory, one free supper, one free afternoon to do whatever I want and one free massage. And get this, the coupon never expires! All wrapped up in a letter of love and affection.

But what about the actual day? Tuesday is a my workhorse day so I shuffled the week around a bit to lighten the load. The kids and went for a spontaneous hike at the nearby bird sanctuary this morning, I had a nap after lunch and this afternoon we head to the library to hang out and fill up on books before picking up daddy and going out for supper. And right now I'm drinking tea and eating still warm homemade applesauce. Reading all my facebook birthday greetings and admiring the handknit sweater my auntie sent for my birthday. where I spent my birthday morningwhere I spent my birthday morning</span>

A good day indeed. Thanks all for the birthday love.

Post script: as the kids and I were leaving the house I discovered another birthday gift in the mail from my parents. Yipee!

Happy birthday! Gifts like that card are my favorite, but woo hoo Refuse to Say Cheese! That's on my wish list :O) And yes, I'll happily mail you cookies for Christmas, but they'll have to count as your birthday cookies, too.
