Garden Report - Tomatoes Planted

I finally have garden progress to report, today I planted tomatoes. It doesn't look so pretty but I'm using High Yield Tomato Mulch for better water retention and weed prevention. But mostly to reduce blight caused by soil spores that splash up onto the leaves. The "mulch" is also supposed to reflect the growth promoting red spectrum of sunlight onto the plants. Since I grow in a small space I can use all the help I can get to maximize my tomato crop.

I planted a variety of 12 different plants, 6 heirloom and 6 "regular". I have Beefsteak next to Brandywine, Amish Paste and a Russian yellow fruited heirloom. A cherry and a grape and market favorites like Early Girl and Celebrity.

The plants are kind of close together, about one foot apart and I plan to trellis and prune them to better growth and more fruit.

Next Up: Bush beans, corn, pole beans, sunflowers, gourds.

And hopefully someday soon finish the raised bed and plant the greens.

Renee, Thanks for visiting my site, and I've been meaning to stop by here to thank you for responding to my comment on Shutter Sisters about the digital camera. I have loved my point n' shoot, and I've gotten a lot of use out of it. I've learned a lot. I am looking forward to our new SLR, which should arrive any day now!

I love to garden, but I don't have as much time this year, and we are having a drought, so I just planted two tomato plants. One of them doesn't look like it's going to make it. (sigh) But I look forward to a few tomato sandwiches later in the summer!
