My Afternoon Ski

With the premise of "getting exercise" I go for an afternoon ski with my camera.

I aim to do this twice a week, plus a weekend day of skiing in the mountains with my family. Some weeks I only make it out once during the week, alternating this with walks to the post office to pick up the mail.

It's one of my favorite parts to this new life. The motivation to exercise, right outside my door.

Taking a camera with you works well for an creative, exercise softie like me. It's the beauty that draws me out the door, not the work-out, though that does feel great.

But with a camera along, it's a real stop and start work out. And crunch down low on your skis, or tromp off the path into the woods for (oh, a little to the left...) that perfect shot.

Somedays I meet neighbors on snowshoes, skis or snowmobiles.

But mostly my afternoon ski through the woods of our neighborhood is a solitary affair. Just me and my camera.

Beautiful! What rare quiet for anyone in this age, especially a mother of three. Is it quite safe to be out by yourself in the woods?

yes (smile). I'm very close to home and we live in a safe, friendly, everybody knows everybody area. That's the benefit of a small town, village actually.

The snow is so beautiful, and I love how it makes the world quiet. It doesn't get much more peaceful than the woods cloaked in snow. It looks like we might have a snowless winter this year in our part of the world. :(

How beautiful! I love a snowy winter vista. It simply emanates peace. (PS—I don't always comment here but I always read your blog—it's one of the few I go to simply for he enjoyment of it. It's such a lovely peaceful place you have created—thank you!)
