my first knitting project ~ done

It only took me 8 months but I'm done my first ever knitting project, a little shoulder shawl. SouleMama talked about this pattern ages ago and I fell in love with the striped effect and thought "that's looks easy enough for me to do." Well it was easy, but time consuming. And the yarn I used didn't strip the same way (I knew it wouldn't when I chose it).

I'm not a sit down and knit for hours at a time kind of gal. I take my knitting with me everywhere - the mountains, the beach, house church, appointments, outdoor excursions with the kids. I knit in 10, 15, 20 minute intervals. The longest stretch of time I spent on this shawl was the final binding off.

I've decided this shawl is much better as a pretty neck warmer or maybe come summer as a little cover up to just take the edge off a chilly evening. The wool is superwash merino, fingerling weight, dyed & spun in Maine at Done Roving Farm Yarns. It's a lovely shawl/neck warmer and I'm thrilled that I actually knit it.

I know these don't match, but I'm not a matching sort of dresser

Next up is a pair of socks from Kids Knitting. Oh, this is fun!

You are much braver than me. I look at Soule Mama's work and think "Wow, she's amazing! I wish I had half that talent." But then you can't be or do all things. While I don't think it's for me right now, I really admire the knitting projects I've seen. You go, mama!

I am so inspired and intimidated by knitting. I don't see patterns well enough in my head. Someone would have to hold my hand the whole time... so I'm quilting this fall instead. But I am so jealous of the knitting projects I have seen everywhere I go lately, while people take it along with them. In the green room, at our play, even the KIDS were knitting! sigh

Oh yay! It's wonderful. I was just waiting for it to be done so I could check it out...does that make me some kind of creepy stalker lady? Hope not. :) Looks great!

Nice job! It looks fantastic. I've been wanting to learn how to knit for awhile now. I have no idea where to begin. Sometimes I just stand in the yarn aisle at the fabric store for a good hour and browse all there "easy knit" books. Somehow I must think I'll learn by osmosis. One of these days I'll get brave enough to hold the needles. Anyway....well done! It's beautiful.

Beautiful. I have knitted before but it's been a long time. I was really wanting to make a shawl so I think I will check out that link. Great job!

Looks fantastic! Love the yarn and your little one looks quite content with it. Perhaps you have inspired me now to pick up some knitting needles and give it a try.

Bravo! Outstanding job! Love the colors! I was just at Nezinscott Farms wool shop the other night.... admiring all the beautiful hand dyed yarns she offers. I do love the socks, hats & mittens they have for sale there. How much nicer to make it yourself! Very nice!
