Winter blah

I was starting to think I was emotionally unstable or perhaps stark raving mad and then I realized, with the help of my insightful husband, that I simply have the winter blahs. So this hasn't been the most rosy week to post about. I've moped around trying to get projects done. Trying to stay motivated at the half way point of our course, willing myself to not put on another DVD for the kids to watch.

At the same time I've been recuperating from a cold and tending a sick child. Brienne is recovering from a cold virus that's been pestering her for the last couple weeks. This sounds an awful lot like complaining.

We've given up praying for snow and now I'm just praying for spring. Good thing is, I'm certain, eventually, my prayers will be answered!

March looks like it should be a good month for us here. The kids and I are going to a Kinderkonzert this week at Bates and to the farm for our last winter share pick up day.

Next weekend we're heading to Boston to the Aquarium. The week after that I'm going to a luncheon talk at the library entitled "How to Live a Creative Life" featuring a Monica Wood a Maine author whose writing I really like. Daddy's doing lunch duty that day.

That weekend we are going to a folk dance festival with the kids. Damien and I have enjoyed Contra dancing but want to get the kids involved as well. Later in the month I'm working at Hedgehog Hill Farm for a day to earn barter dollars towards my garden. And that night we're going to a Gala at the college. I've never been but the invitation indicates it's a dance - I'm such a newbie at this. I've got a month to figure out what I'm going to wear.

So hopefully the month will be full enough of getting out and about that I won't go crazy, and before you know it spring will be here. The kids and I have it marked on the calendar and we're counting down the days.

Sounds like you've got 'cabin fever', so very normal for most people in the month of February, when everyone's totally tired of winter and tired of being cooped up indoors. So-o-o BORING! The shorter daylight hours make us crave more sunlight in our lives. The fact that you have been sick makes it even worse because that alone is quite depressing and insulting to a body! Good thing you have all those fun activities planned. Dad and I feel it too, the cabin fever. Right now we are busy painting a few rooms in the house, so that activity is making the time pass a little quicker. We should be done all the indoor rennovations just in time to enjoy the spring weather when it comes. However, we are hearing some nasty rumours about a 'delayed spring'. Sure hope it isn't true. Pretty soon I plan to sit out on the south side deck and get a sun tan while I watch the snow melt below. It gets warm on the deck with all the glass railing and southern exposure. NO BUGS! Well maybe the odd fly every so now and then, but that's all. In past years I have been able to sit out in shorts even in February as long as the sun was shining in the warmest part of the day. So what is everyone else doing to fight off the 'cabin fever blues'?
